With the support of the healthy schools team in Cardiff Council, young people in CYC’s environment subgroup were invited to contribute to the discussion making process around the procurement of sustainable sanitary products for schools across the local authority. There were 4 lots in total available for tender and 9 companies applied.
Meg said: “On Friday the 28th of February 2020, I was given the opportunity to attend a meeting with Karen Trigg and colleagues to review introducing sustainable sanitary products to Cardiff schools. It was a great way for me, and the other young people who attended, to explore environmentally friendly brands and to have a discussion about which were most suitable. It was really beneficial to have a proper look at these products. I felt like I had a valid voice around the table and I felt that my opinion was very welcomed.”
All of the young people involved found the experience to be empowering as they shared their view on the environmental impact of each product.

Gyda chymorth y tîm ysgolion iach yng Nghyngor Caerdydd, gwahoddwyd pobl ifanc yn is-grŵp amgylchedd CIC i gyfrannu at wneud penderfyniad ynghylch caffael cynhyrchion misglwyf cynaliadwy ar gyfer ysgolion ar draws yr awdurdod lleol. Roedd 4 lot i gyd ar gael ar gyfer tendro ac ymgeisiodd 9 cwmni.
Dywedodd Meg: “Ar ddydd Gwener 28 Chwefror 2020, cefais gyfle i fynychu cyfarfod gyda Karen Trigg a chydweithwyr i adolygu cyflwyno cynhyrchion misglwyf cynaliadwy i ysgolion Caerdydd. Roedd yn ffordd wych i mi, a’r bobl ifanc eraill a oedd yn bresennol, archwilio brandiau ecogyfeillgar a chael trafodaeth ynglŷn â pha rai oedd fwyaf addas. Roedd yn wirioneddol fuddiol cael golwg iawn ar y cynhyrchion hyn. Roeddwn i’n teimlo bod gen i lais dilys o gwmpas y bwrdd a theimlais fod fy marn yn cael ei chroesawu yn fawr.”
Roedd yr holl bobl ifanc a gymerodd ran yn credu bod y profiad yn eu grymuso wrth iddyn nhw rannu eu barn am effaith amgylcheddol pob cynnyrch.
