Capital Ambition 2.0

Capital Ambition is Cardiff Council administration’s new five-year plan for the city, outlining the council’s vision for Cardiff to become a leading city on the world stage. Each Cabinet member has outlined their key aims and ambitions for their term of office. CYC members were invited by the Leader of Cardiff Council Councillor Huw Thomas to attend the Capital Ambition Launch 2.0 at Cardiff and Vale College on the 6th of February 2020. The plan focuses on four main areas, working for Cardiff, working for Wales, working for the future and working for public services. Steffan Thomas, a member of Cardiff Youth Council, said, “It was great to be able to attend the event and hear of Cardiff Council’s plans for the future.

It was interesting and thought provoking, especially given the need to balance growth with environmental concerns that are increasingly important.” Steffan managed to ask Cllr Huw Thomas, “The plan calls for a greener capital city. How achievable is this given the current emphasis on new development and economic growth?” and in his own words; “I was particularly keen to hear the Leader’s views as to how the city can grow and develop whilst respecting environmental concerns. The Leader’s response acknowledged the importance of striking this balance and ensuring that future development is as sustainable as possible.” CYC look forward to working with Cllr Huw Thomas and Cabinet Members in realising Capital Ambition 2.0 and making Cardiff a Child Friendly City.
