New Rights Respecting Schools Model Launched

Cardiff has set the ambitious goal of getting all its schools active in the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award programme (RRSA). To help schools on their RRSA journey a suite of support and training has been launched.

A range of free citywide training has been planned, helping schools at the start of the journey as well as those schools who are further along with theirs. The UNICEF UK training enables schools to gain new skills, share ideas and embed children’s rights in the curriculum and across school life.

Cardiff Council in partnership with UNICEF UK have negotiated a range of subsidies for schools from when they’re initially registering on to the programme through to when they’re being assessed for their award.

Sarah Hooke, UNICEF Rights Respecting School Lead Advisor for Wales, said ‘It’s great to see so many schools in Cardiff now involved in the programme, with this new approach to support schools I can only see the number growing’.

Lee Patterson, Child Friendly City Coordinator for Cardiff, said ‘There has been a significant interest from schools, we now have over half of our schools active within the Rights Respecting Schools Programme putting children’s rights at the heart of school communities’.

The first citywide training for new schools on the programme will take place on 6th June.

Lansio Model Newydd Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau

Mae Caerdydd wedi gosod targed uchelgeisiol o sicrhau bod pob ysgol yn cymryd rhan mewn rhaglen Gwobr Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau UNICEF (GYPH). Er mwyn helpu ysgolion ar eu taith GYPH, mae ystod o gymorth a hyfforddiant wedi’i lansio.

Mae amrywiaeth o hyfforddiant am ddim wedi’i gynllunio ledled y ddinas, er mwyn helpu ysgolion ar ddechrau’r daith ynghyd â’r ysgolion hynny sydd bellach ymlaen ar eu taith. Mae’r hyfforddiant gan UNICEF UK yn galluogi ysgolion i ennill sgiliau newydd, rhannu syniadau ac ymgorffori hawliau plant i’r cwricwlwm a phob rhan o fywyd ysgol.

Ar y cyd ag UNICEF UK, mae Cyngor Caerdydd wedi cyd-drafod amrywiaeth o cymorthdaliadau gan ysgolion pan fyddant yn cofrestru ar y rhaglen i ddechrau, hyd nes eu bod yn cael eu hasesu ar gyfer gwobr.

Dywedodd Sarah Hooke, Ymgynghorydd Arweiniol Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau UNICEF Cymru: ‘Mae’n wych gweld cymaint o ysgolion yng Nghaerdydd ynghlwm wrth y rhaglen bellach, a chyda’r dull newydd hwn o gefnogi ysgolion, rwy’n siŵr y bydd y nifer yn tyfu ymhellach’.

Dywedodd Lee Patterson, Cydlynydd Dinas sy’n Dda i Blant Caerdydd, ‘Mae ysgolion wedi bod â diddordeb sylweddol – bellach mae dros hanner ein hysgolion yn cymryd rhan yn y Rhaglen Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau, gan roi hawliau plant wrth wraidd cymunedau ysgolion’.

Bydd yr hyfforddiant dinas gyfan cyntaf i ysgolion sy’n newydd i’r rhaglen yn cael ei gynnal ar 6 Mehefin.

The following article is from Gladstone Primary School

We are proud to announce that Gladstone Primary School has recently been awarded the Rights Respecting Schools Bronze Award and we would like to tell you about some of things that help us achieve this.

The children in our Rights Respecting Group introduced the whole concept of children’s rights to pupils and staff during our launch assembly which they successfully hosted and led.

We regularly meet to update our progress and to ensure we are representing views of our fellow student body they are given the option to share their views, write down their ideas and place in suggestion boxes situated around the school (Article 12 – respect the views of the child).

The boxes are emptied before each meeting and we make sure we discuss each topic raised. Representatives then go to speak to our Head teacher to discuss any issues/ ideas e.g. exchanging the foam footballs we currently use to more durable footballs which last longer (part of Article 31 -leisure, play and culture).

These ideas are discussed and implemented as far as possible.

Our recent change has been to our monthly newsletter. The children of the ‘Rights Respecting Group’ felt that they would like to reformat the structure to include all of the relevant class information which they help to produce. They feel there is a need to include a section entirely aimed at children and therefore they introduced a joke section, an ‘In the Spotlight’ staff interview section where they choose who to interview and what the questions they’d like to ask and a Rights Respecting Schools Award section where they can give any updates about progress (Article 13 – freedom of expression).

Rydym yn falch o gyhoeddi bod Ysgol Gynradd Gladstone yn ddiweddar wedi ennill Gwobr Efydd Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau, ac hoffem ddweud wrthych am rai o’r pethau wnaeth ein helpu ni i gyflawni hyn.

Gwnaeth plant ein Grŵp Parchu Hawliau gyflwyno’r cysyniad o hawliau plant i ddisgyblion a staff yn ystod y gwasanaeth lansio, a gynhaliwyd ac a arweiniwyd yn llwyddiannus ganddynt.

Rydym yn cwrdd yn rheolaidd i asesu ein cynnydd, ac er mwyn sicrhau ein bod ni’n cynrychioli barn ein myfyrwyr eraill rydym yn rhoi’r cyfle i rannu eu barn, ysgrifennu syniadau a’u rhoi mewn bocsys awgrymiadau ar draws yr ysgol (Erthygl 12 – Parchu barn y plentyn).

Caiff y bocsys eu gwacáu cyn pob cyfarfod ac rydym yn sicrhau ein bod ni’n trafod pob pwnc a godir. Yna, bydd cynrychiolwyr yn mynd i siarad â’r Pennaeth i drafod unrhyw faterion/syniadau e.e. newid y peli pêl-droed sbwng sy’n cael eu defnyddio ar hyn o bryd i beli sy’n para’n hirach (rhan o Erthygl 31 – Hamdden, chwarae, diwylliant).

Caiff y syniadau hyn eu trafod a’u gweithredu cyn belled ag sy’n bosibl.

Rydym wedi newid ein cylchlythyr misol yn ddiweddar. Roedd plant y ‘Grŵp sy’n Parchu Hawliau’ yn teimlo yr hoffent ailfformatio’r strwythur i gynnwys yr holl wybodaeth berthnasol am ddosbarthiadau y maen nhw’n helpu i’w chreu. Maent o’r farn bod angen cynnwys adran sydd ar gyfer plant yn gyfan gwbl, ac felly gwnaethant gynnwys adran jôcs, adran cyfweliadau staff ‘Dan y Chwyddwydr’ lle roeddent yn dewis pwy i gyfweld â nhw a’r cwestiynau yr hoffent eu gofyn, ac adran Gwobr Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau lle gallent roi diweddariadau am gynnydd (Erthygl 13 – Rhyddid mynegiant).

Young Interviewers

The young interviewers recently worked alongside Nick Batchelar, the Director of Education for Cardiff Council, on the interview panels for Assistant Director of Education and the Program Director for School Organisation Program (SOP).

The Assistant Director of Education has overall operational responsibility for all services in the Achievement, Inclusion and Services to Schools areas. There are approximately 520 full-time equivalent staff in these areas with a budget made up from revenue, grant and traded income to the order of £16.5M. Central budgets have been much reduced in recent years, and the Assistant Director will lead continuing service improvement to ensure that the council continues to effectively deliver in its role as the Local Authority.

The Program Director for SOP will be responsible for delivering the Welsh Government’s Band B 21st Century Schools Programme. Cardiff has the largest school estate of any council in Wales and the biggest projected spend under this programme. In addition to this, the city is seeing significant new housing growth which brings with it a sizeable programme of new school building, delivered under planning consent agreements with developers. Taken together, the overall financial investment in the education estate over the next ten years will be approaching £0.5 billion.

The young interviewer teams were one of a number of interview panels that included key stake holders such as school governors, head teachers, human resources, the Director of Education, the Chief Executive Paul Orders and elected members.

Candidates were asked to present ideas as well as complete an unseen task.

The young people said “It was great to be involved in such interviews which will help to shape the education system in Cardiff”.

The two successful candidates are:

Assistant Director Education and Lifelong Learning – Mike Tate who will be taking up post from September 2019.

Programme Director School Organisation Programme – Richard Portas who will be taking up post from the beginning of June 2019.

The Young Interviewers said that thanks must go to all the candidates who took part and congratulate Mike and Richard on their appointments. Cardiff Youth Council looks forward to working with them in the future.

Yn ddiweddar, gweithiodd y cyfwelwyr ifanc ochr yn ochr â Nick Batchelar, Cyfarwyddwr Addysg Cyngor Caerdydd, ar baneli cyfweld ar gyfer swyddi Cyfarwyddwr Cynorthwyol Addysg a Chyfarwyddwr Rhaglen y Cynllun Trefniadaeth Ysgolion (CTY).

Mae gan Gyfarwyddwr Cynorthwyol Addysg gyfrifoldeb gweithredol cyffredinol dros bob gwasanaeth yn y meysydd Cyflawniad, Cynhwysiant a Gwasanaethau i Ysgolion. Mae oddeutu 520 o aelodau staff cyfwerth ag amser llawn yn y meysydd hyn gyda chyllideb yn deillio o refeniw, grant ac incwm masnachol gwerth oddeutu £16.5m. Gyda’i gilydd, bydd y buddsoddiad ariannol cyffredinol i’r ystâd addysg dros y ddeng mlynedd nesaf bron yn £0.5 biliwn.

Roedd y timau cyfwelwyr ifanc yn un o sawl panel cyfwelwyr a oedd yn cynnwys prif randdeiliaid megis llywodraethwyr ysgol, penaethiaid, adnoddau dynol, y Cyfarwyddwr Addysg, y Prif Weithredwr Paul Orders, ac aelodau etholedig.

Gofynnwyd i’r ymgeiswyr gyflwyno syniadau ynghyd â chwblhau tasg heb baratoi cyn y diwrnod.

Dywedodd y bobl ifanc “Roedd yn wych i fod ynghlwm wrth gyfweliadau o’r fath fydd yn helpu i lywio’r system addysg yng Nghaerdydd”.

Dyma’r ddau ymgeisydd llwyddiannus:

Cyfarwyddwr Cynorthwyol Addysg a Dysgu Gydol Oes – Mike Tate a fydd yn dechrau yn y swydd o fis Medi 2019.

Cyfarwyddwr Rhaglen Cynllun Trefniadaeth Ysgolion – Richard Portas a fydd yn dechrau yn y swydd o fis Mehefin 2019.

Dywedodd y Cyfwelwyr Ifanc fod angen diolch i’r holl ymgeiswyr a gymerodd ran a llongyfarch Mike a Richard ar eu swyddi newydd. Mae Cyngor Ieuenctid Caerdydd yn edrych ymlaen at weithio gyda nhw yn y dyfodol.

Cardiff 2030

In June 2016, Cardiff Council launched a strategy called Cardiff 2020 with an aim to help improve education and learning in Cardiff. Cardiff 2020 set out a vision, desired outcomes and five key goals for 2016 – 2020.

The vision was that all children and young people in Cardiff attend a great school and develop the knowledge, skills and characteristics that lead them to become personally
successful, economically productive and actively engaged citizens.

To deliver this vision the key goals were:

– Excellent outcomes for learners

– A high quality workforce

– 21st Century learning environments

– A self-improving school system

– Schools and Cardiff in partnership

Following on from Cardiff 2020 members of CYC were invited by Cardiff Council’s director of education, Nick Batchelar, to attend a workshop to begin to consider the preparation of a Cardiff 2030 Strategy.

The session was facilitated by Simon Day, from ISOS Partnership, with a view of framing the approach to the strategy development which included visioning, priorities and stakeholder engagement.

In 2017/18, the data shows that Cardiff is performing well in a wide range of key performance indicators across the key stages. Setting these results against the aspirations in Cardiff 2020, it is clear that the collective commitment to educational
improvement in the city has had a significant impact. However, there is much more to do to fulfil the aspiration that ‘all learners in Cardiff have the opportunity to succeed’.

The aim is to launch the new strategy in the Autumn of 2019 and further updates will be
shown in future editions of the Shout Out.

 

Caerdydd 2030

Ym Mehefin 2016 lansiodd Cyngor Caerdydd strategaeth o’r enw 2020 gyda’r nod o helpu i wella addysg a dysgu yng Nghaerdydd. Amlinellodd Caerdydd 2020 weledigaeth, deilliannau dymunol a phum nod allweddol ar gyfer 2016-2020.

Y weledigaeth oedd bod yr holl blant a phobl ifanc yng Nghaerdydd yn mynd i ysgol ragorol ac yn datblygu gwybodaeth, sgiliau a nodweddion sy’n eu galluogi i fod yn ddinasyddion sy’n llwyddiannus yn bersonol, yn economaidd gynhyrchiol ac sy’n chwarae rhan weithredol yn y gymdeithas.

Er mwyn gwireddu’r weledigaeth hon, pennwyd y nodau allweddol canlynol:

– Deilliannau rhagorol i ddysgwyr

– Gweithlu o safon uchel

– Amgylcheddau dysgu’r 21ain ganrif

– System ysgolion hunanwella

– Ysgolion a Chaerdydd mewn partneriaeth

Yn dilyn Caerdydd 2020 gwahoddwyd aelodau CIC gan gyfarwyddwr addysg Cyngor Caerdydd, Nick Batchelar, i fynd i weithdy a dechrau ystyried a pharatoi Strategaeth Caerdydd 2030.

Cafodd y sesiwn ei hwyluso gan Simon Day, o bartneriaeth ISOS, gyda’r bwriad i lunio’r dull o ddatblygu’r strategaeth, a oedd yn cynnwys gweledigaethau, blaenoriaethau ac ymgysylltiad â rhanddeiliad.

Yn ôl y data, roedd Caerdydd yn perfformio’n dda yn 2017/18 mewn amrywiaeth eang o ddangosyddion perfformiad allweddol ar draws y cyfnodau allweddol. Wrth osod y canlyniadau hyn yn erbyn y dyheadau yng Nghaerdydd 2020, mae’n amlwg y cafodd yr ymrwymiad ar y cyd i welliant addysgol yn y ddinas effaith sylweddol. Fodd bynnag, mae gennym lawer mwy i’w wneud er mwyn cyflawni’r dyhead bod pob dysgwr yng Nghaerdydd yn cael y cyfle i lwyddo.

Y nod yw lansio’r strategaeth newydd yn ystod Hydref 2019 a chaiff diweddariadau pellach eu nodi yn rhifynnau dilynol Shout Out.

 

Head of Achievement Interviews (Young Interviewers)

The Young Interviewers program is in full swing once again and young people are involved in high level interviews within the Education Directorate.

The directorate has recently been through a restructure that has created four service areas which are Achievement, Inclusion, Services to Schools & School Organisation and Access & Planning.

CYC members have been working alongside Nick Batchelar (Director of Education), Head Teachers, School Governors and representation for the council HR department in conducting interviews for the post of ‘Head of Achievement’.
The Head of Achievement joins a senior leadership team of three other heads of service and will report to the Assistant Director of Education.

They will lead the Education Directorate Achievement Service area and will have responsibility for a wide range of teams such as:

– School improvement

– Youth services

– Education welfare

– Looked after Children

– Cardiff Commitment

– Information management

– Elected home education

– Education other than at school

– Healthy schools

The candidates where put through their paces with a number of elements to the interview process that included; an unseen task, young person panel, technical interview and key stake holder interviews

Once the young person panel had conducted their interviews they came together with the other panels to discuss the candidates.

At the time of writing this article no appointment had been made and we will update you in future articles. In the coming weeks members of CYC will once again be working with the Nick Batchelar to conduct interviews for the posts of Assistant Director of Education and Program Director for the School Organisation Programme.

Mae’r rhaglen Cyfwelwyr Ifanc ar waith unwaith eto ac mae pobl ifanc yn cymryd rhan mewn cyfweliadau lefel uchel yn y Gyfarwyddiaeth Addysg.

Bu ailstrwythuro yn y gyfarwyddiaeth yn ddiweddar ac mae hyn wedi creu pedwar gwasanaeth sef Cyrhaeddiad, Cynhwysiant, Gwasanaethau i Ysgolion a Threfniadau a Mynediad a Chynllunio.

Mae aelodau CIC wedi bod yn gweithio ochr yn ochr gyda Nick Batchelar (Cyfarwyddwr Addysg), Pennaeth Athrawon, Llywodraethwyr Ysgol a chynrychiolwyr ar ran adran adnoddau dynol y Cyngor wrth gynnal cyfweliadau ar gyfer y swydd ‘Pennaeth Cyrhaeddiad’.

UPDATE Tesco Bags for Help

Cardiff Youth Council (CYC) have received £1000 from the Tesco Bags of Help fund which will help them to plan, develop and deliver a project which will benefit the community.

CYC are now in the process of deciding what the project should be by utilising a digital democratic platform called VocalEyes. Ideas for projects are entered into VocalEyes and then members are able to rate each idea out of 5.

A number of ideas have already been put forward by the youth council and, over the next 12 months, the winning idea (highest rated) will be put into action.

The youth council will have full autonomy, but within the guidelines set by Tesco and Groundworks, over what the project will be, the budget, resources and how the money is to be spent.

CYC wishes to thank all those who voted for them in Tesco Stores during November & December 2018 and they look forward to working on the project.

Bagiau Help Tesco

Mae Cyngor Ieuenctid Caerdydd (CIC) wedi cael £1000 gan gronfa Bagiau o Help Tesco a fydd yn eu helpu i gynllunio, datblygu a chyflawni project a fydd o fudd i’r gymuned.

Mae CIC wrthi’n penderfynu ar ba broject i’w ddewis ar hyn o bryd drwy ddefnyddio platfform democrataidd digidol o’r enw VocalEyes. Mae syniadau am brojectau yn cael ei llwytho i VocalEyes ac wedyn gall aelodau bleidleisio ar bob syniad allan o 5.

Mae nifer o syniadau eisoes wedi eu cyflwyno gan y cyngor ieuenctid a, dros y 12 mis nesaf, caiff y syniad buddugol ei roi ar waith.

Bydd annibyniaeth lwyr gan y cyngor ieuenctid, ond o fewn canllawiau Tesco a Groundworks, o ran beth fydd y project, y gyllideb a’r adnoddau.

Dymuna CIC ddiolch i bawb a bleidleisiodd drostynt yn y Siopau Tesco yn ystod mis Tachwedd a Rhagfyr 2018 ac maent yn edrych ymlaen at weithio ar y project.

A change to CYC’s Executive Board

 

CYC are currently undergoing reformation in a number of ways and as part of this change CYC have invited Rose Melhuish, the chair of the Children & Young People’s Advisory Board (CYPAB) for Cardiff’s Child Friendly City Programme, to sit on CYC’s Executive.

As the position of chair of the CYPAB is an elected position, it was decided that it would make sense for their Chair to join the executive of CYC so that there would be wider representation and closer links with the CFC programme of work. Rose said that she is looking forward to this opportunity and welcomes the new challenge it will bring.

Yasmin Bahary has also joined the executive for CYC and has taken over from Chloe Burrage as the Vice-Chair of CYC and as the young person’s representative on Children & Young People’s Scrutiny Committee. Yasmin took over from Chloe as she was the runner up during the election that was held when Chloe Burrage and
Tom Allabarton (current chair of CYC) were elected back in June 2018.

Mae CIC wrthi’n cael ei newid mewn nifer o ffyrdd ac yn rhan o’r newid hwn mae CIC wedi gwahodd Rose Melhuish, cadeirydd Bwrdd Ymgynghorol Plant a Phobl Ifanc ar gyfer Rhaglen Caerdydd Dinas Sy’n Dda I Blant, i fod yn rhan o Weithrediaeth CIC.

Gan fod y penodiad yn gadeirydd y Bwrdd Ymgynghorol Plant a Phobl Ifanc yn un etholedig, penderfynwyd y byddai’n synhwyrol i’w cadeirydd ymuno â gweithrediaeth CIC fel y byddai cynrychiolaeth ehangach a chysylltiadau agosach â gwaith y rhaglen Dinas Sy’n Dda i Blant. Dywedodd Rose ei bod yn edrych ymlaen at y cyfle hwn a’i bod yn croesawu’r her newydd a ddaw gyda hyn.

Mae Yasmin Bahary hefyd wedi ymuno â Gweithrediaeth CIC ac mae hi wedi cymryd y rôl Is-gadeirydd CIC gan Chloe Burrage a’r rôl cynrychiolydd pobl ifanc ar Bwyllgor Craffu Plant a Phobl Ifanc. CYC & CYPAB respond to SHRN Student Health and Wellbeing Survey 2017/18

Cardiff Youth Council (CYC) and the Children and Young People’s Advisory Board (CYPAB) have met to look at the Cardiff Student’s School Health Research Network (SHRN) Student Health and Wellbeing Survey 2017/18 and give feedback from the perspective of children and young people (C&YP).

They were asked to look at the results from across the city, not from any particular school or area, and feedback what their views and thoughts are regarding the data.

The following is their direct response to what they identified as some of the more concerning issues.

Current teacher training and school policies are not adequate enough [for schools] to provide the appropriate health and wellbeing support, and well rounded education, that is necessary during the crucial years of development [for students] in secondary school.

There is a pattern throughout the survey that shows figures for Year 10 and Year 11 are more negative than earlier years. We [CYC] believe it is the performance heavy expectations of KS4 education that increase the pressures on both students and staff, negatively affecting both parties. These expectations filter down from Welsh Government and Estyn to school heads, teachers and students, depriving students of the essential attention and support they need. ‘KS4 simply doesn’t allow the time for a wellbeing education.’

Without a proper wellbeing strategy, not only do people suffer, but the [exam] results, for which the Welsh Government and in turn Estyn, schools and teachers are so concerned about, decline.

An option could be to balance this with securing a wellbeing approach in KS3. This could help to equip students with the healthy coping mechanisms and skills they’ll need, and give staff the structure and culture in which to support students and colleagues.

This raises the question of what we [CYC] consider to be an all-encompassing wellbeing education that is critical for education reform. It must be accessible, relevant, embedded in the culture of the school and be beneficial for all pupils and staff.

Some of the measures that could be implemented include:

– Training for staff that properly equips them to build better relationships with students and deal with mental health and wellbeing in both secondary and primary school.

–  Help pupils to develop their self-identity and critical thinking as well as understanding others’ e.g. Interests, personal learning, confidence, cultures etc.

– Better education around health; physical, mental and sexual – this should be for ALL PUPILS AND STAFF and not just the YP who have been identified as having problems as many YP stay silent and suffer alone. We all need to be taught about the different types of mental health & wellbeing issues, why they occur and given tools to cope better with them. This will not only help us [young people] identify problems we may be having but will help us identify when our friends may be suffering and help us to help them too

– How to deal with pressure, healthy habits and coping mechanisms – resilience building

– Building life and/or employability skills e.g. Group skills.

CYC currently have Mental Health & Wellbeing as one of their priority groups and are also involved in a Mental Health & Wellbeing task group that has been set up by the Children & Young People’s Scrutiny Committee. The reports for both of these will be written and published over the next few months so please keep a look out.

Cyfarfu Cyngor Ieuenctid Caerdydd (CIC) a’r Bwrdd Ymgynghorol Plant a Phobl Ifanc i ystyried Arolwg Iechyd a Lles Myfyrwyr 2017/18 Rhwydwaith Ymchwil Ysgolion Iach Caerdydd ac i roi sylwadau o safbwynt plant a phobl i fanc.

Gofynnwyd iddynt ystyried y canlyniadau o bob rhan o’r ddinas, nid o unrhyw ysgol nac ardal benodol, ac i gyflwyno eu barn, a’u hystyriaethau ynglŷn â’r data.

Yn dilyn, ceir eu hymateb uniongyrchol i’r hyn a nodwyd ganddynt i fod yn faterion sy’n codi pryder.

Nid yw hyfforddiant athrawon na pholisïau ysgolion yn ddigon priodol [i ysgolion] fel y gallant ddarparu cymorth iechyd a lles priodol, ac addysg gyflawn, sydd ei hangen yn ystod y blynyddol allweddol mewn datblygiad [i blant] yn yr ysgol uwchradd.

Mae patrwm drwy gydol yr arolwg sy’n dangos ffigurau blwyddyn 10 a blwyddyn 11 yn waeth na’r blynyddoedd iau. Rydym ni [CIC] yn credu mai’r disgwyliadau trwm am berfformiad yn ystod addysg CA4 sy’n rhoi pwysau ar fyfyrwyr a staff, gan effeithio ar y ddau barti yn negyddol. Mae’r disgwyliadau hyn yn cael eu gosod gan Lywodraeth Cymru ac Estyn i benaethiaid ysgolion, athrawon a myfyrwyr, gan dynnu sylw hanfodol oddi ar fyfyrwyr yn ogystal â’r cymorth sydd ei angen arnynt. ‘Yn syml, nid yw CA4 yn caniatáu am amser i addysg lles’

Heb strategaeth lles briodol, mae pobl yn dioddef, ond hefyd, mae’r canlyniadau [Arholiadau], y mae Llywodraeth Cymru ac yn eu tro, Estyn, ysgolion ac athrawon yn pryderu amdanynt, yn gostwng.

Gellir cael y posibilrwydd o gydbwyso hyn drwy sicrhau dull lles yn CA3. Gallai hyn helpu i baratoi myfyrwyr gyda ffyrdd iach o ymdopi a’r sgiliau sydd eu hangen arnynt, a rhoi i staff y strwythur a’r diwylliant i gefnogi myfyrwyr a gweithwyr ynddo.

Mae hyn yn codi’r cwestiwn am beth yr ydym ni [CIC] yn ei ystyried yn addysg lles gynhwysfawr sy’n hanfodol ar gyfer gwella addysg. Mae’n rhaid i addysg lles fod yn hygyrch, yn rhan o ddiwylliant yr ysgol a bod o fudd i’r holl ddisgyblion a staff.

Mae rhai o’r mesurau y gellid eu rhoi ar waith yn cynnwys:

Hyfforddiant i staff a fydd yn rhoi iddynt y dulliau cywir i ddatblygu perthnasoedd gwell gyda myfyrwyr a delio gydag iechyd meddwl a lles yn yr ysgolion cynradd ac uwchradd.

Helpu disgyblion i ddatblygu eu hunaniaeth a’u ffordd o feddwl yn feirniadol yn ogystal â deall eraill e.e. diddordebau, dysgu personol, hyder, diwylliannau ac ati.

Addysg well ar gyfer iechyd corfforol, meddyliol a rhywiol – dylai hyn fod yn berthnasol i bob disgybl ac aelod staff ac nid dim ond i’r bobl ifanc sydd wedi eu nodi eu bod â phroblemau gan fod llawer o bobl ifanc yn aros yn dawel ac yn dioddef ar eu pennau eu hunain. Mae rhaid i ni gyd gael ein haddysgu am y gwahanol fathau o broblemau iechyd meddwl a lles, pam maent yn digwydd a chael ffyrdd o ymdopi â nhw yn well. Bydd hyn yn ein helpu ni [pobl ifanc] i nodi problemau y gall fod gennym ni ond bydd hefyd yn ein helpu pan fydd ein ffrindiau yn dioddef efallai a’n helpu ni i’w helpu nhw.

Datblygu sgiliau bywyd a chyflogadwyedd e.e. sgiliau grŵp.

Mae Iechyd Meddwl a Lles yn un o grwpiau prif flaenoriaeth CIC ar hyn o bryd ac mae hefyd yn rhan o grŵp gorchwyl Iechyd Meddwl a Lles sydd wedi ei greu gan Bwyllgor Craffu Plant a Phobl Ifanc. Caiff yr adroddiadau am y ddau grŵp eu paratoi a’u cyhoeddi dros yr ychydig fisoedd nesaf felly chwiliwch amdanynt.

Cardiff Commitment STEM Event

Cardiff Commitment brings the public and private sectors together to work in partnership connecting young people to the vast range of opportunities available in the world of work. Ultimately, the goal of the Cardiff Commitment is to ensure that all young people in the city eventually secure a job that enables them to reach their full potential whilst contributing to the economic growth of the city. – From Cardiff Commitment Website

Through this partnership work the latest Grand Council brought together organisations to introduce pupils to a variety of STEM subjects. During the event professionals, from various organisations, asked the pupils their thoughts on whether there should be more emphasis on these types of subjects and how they should be taught.

The organisations involved in the Grand Council were; Welsh Water, Cardiff University, Techniquest, Technocamps & Cardiff Council and they delivered the following workshops; Astrophysics, Data Analysis, Machine Learning, Nano science, Smart City, Techniquest Planetarium & VR in the Workplace.

A big thank you must go out to the KS3 Pupils from the 8 Secondary Schools who attended the day which were Cantonian, Fitzalan, Willows, Woodlands, Eastern, Mary Immaculate, Bishop of Llandaff & Corpus Christi.

What was clear from the evaluation data is that there is a strong desire among children to see more of these
types of topics in the curriculum and to see external experts helping to
deliver alongside teachers in schools.

The data is to be presented to the Cardiff Commitment SLG and to a mixed audience of business people, academics and teachers in March. This data should help shape the new curriculum and the Cardiff 2030 education strategy going forward. This is just the start of the dialogue.

Digwyddiad STEM Addewid Caerdydd

Mae Addewid Caerdydd yn dod â sectorau cyhoeddus a phreifat ynghyd i weithio mewn partneriaeth yn cysylltu pobl ifanc â’r amrywiaeth eang o gyfleoedd sydd ar gael ym myd gwaith. Nod Addewid Caerdydd yn y pen draw yw sicrhau bod pob person ifanc yn y ddinas yn cael swydd yn y diwedd a fydd yn ei alluogi i gyrraedd ei botensial llawn a chyfrannu at dwf economaidd y ddinas. O Wefan Addewid Caerdydd

Drwy weithio mewn partneriaeth, yn ystod yr Uwch-gyngor diweddaraf daeth sefydliadau ynghyd i gyflwyno amrywiaeth o bynciau STEM i ddisgyblion. Yn ystod y digwyddiad, gofynnodd gweithwyr proffesiynol o wahanol sefydliadau i’r disgyblion p’un a ddylid pwysleisio pynciau STEM ragor a sut y dylent gael eu haddysgu yn yr ysgol.

Y sefydliadau a gymerodd ran yn yr Uwch-gyngor oedd: Dŵr Cymru, Prifysgol Caerdydd, Techniquest, Technocamps a Chyngor Caerdydd. Gwnaethant gyflwyno’r gweithdai canlynol: Astroffiseg, Dadansoddi Data, Dysgu Peirianyddol, Nano wyddoniaeth, Dinasoedd Campus, Planetariwm Techniquest a Rhith-wirionedd yn y Gweithle.

Mae’n rhaid dweud diolch yn fawr i ddisgyblion CA3 o’r wyth ysgol uwchradd a ddaeth i’r digwyddiad, sef Ysgol Cantonian, Ysgol Fitzalan, Ysgol Willows, Ysgol Woodlands, Ysgol y Dwyrain, Ysgol Mair Ddihalog, Ysgol Esgob Llandaf a Corpus Christi.

Daeth yn glir o’r data asesu bod awydd cryf ymhlith y plant i weld rhagor o’r mathau hyn o bynciau yn y cwricwlwm a gweld arbenigwyr allanol yn helpu i gyflwyno hynny law yn llaw gyda’u hathrawon mewn ysgolion.

Caiff y data ei gyflwyno i SLG Addewid Caerdydd ac i gynulleidfa gymysg o bobl fusnes, academyddion ac athrawon ym mis Mawrth. Dylai’r data hwn helpu i lunio’r cwricwlwm newydd a strategaeth addysg Caerdydd 2030 wrth fynd ymlaen. Dim ond dechrau’r deialog yw hyn.
