UKYP Annual Conference

Written by Connor

On August 2, I, along with my partner Victor and others from across the UK, got on a coach and went to Leeds for the 2019 UK Youth Parliament’s Annual Conference, #UKYP19!

As a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP), attending the Annual Conference is one of the highlights of the year. It allows us to meet fellow MYPs from across the country and debate motions presented by other MYPs. There were over 300 MYPs and Deputy MYPs in attendance and on top of that we were able to meet and listen to the Rt. Hon. Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow!

Bercow has been a loud champion of the UK’s Youth Parliament (UKYP) and being able to listen to his iconic ‘Order!’ in person was truly amazing! Though Bercow will be resigning and not be chairing our House of Commons sitting in November, it was still good to hear him speak and give his opinion on youth voice.

But why were we at the Annual Conference? The Annual Conference is the UKYP’s way of finding what priorities young people care about. MYPs presented motions that were important in their constituency and due to Cardiff becoming a Child Friendly City, I presented a motion based on the UNCRC.

These motions were debated and voted on over three, very long and very hot, big vote sessions over the weekend.

Successful motions make up the UKYP manifesto, which would later become the motions we see on the Make Your Mark ballot.

It was honestly a really good weekend and an amazing bonding experience with other Welsh and UK MYPs – my most memorable moment being the really fun and singing filled coach ride up!

Cynhadledd flynyddol SIDU

Ysgrifennwyd gan Connor

Ar 2 Awst, fe es i a fy mhartner Victor ac eraill o bob rhan o’r DU, ar fws i Leeds ar gyfer Cynhadledd Flynyddol Senedd Ieuenctid y DU 2019, #SIDU19!

Fel Aelod o’r Senedd Ieuenctid (ASI), mynychu’r Gynhadledd Flynyddol yw un o uchafbwyntiau’r flwyddyn. Mae’n ein galluogi i gwrdd ag Aelodau eraill o bob rhan o’r wlad a thrafod cynigion a gyflwynir gan Aelodau eraill. Roedd dros 300 o Aelodau a Dirprwy Aelodau yn bresennol a chawsom hefyd gwrdd a gwrando ar y Gwir  Anrhydeddus  Siaradwr Tŷ’r Cyffredin, John Bercow!

Mae Bercow wedi bod yn gefnogol iawn o Senedd Ieuenctid y DU (SIDU) ac roedd gallu gwrando ar ei orchymyn ‘Order!’ mewn person yn wych! Er y bydd Bercow yn ymddeol a ddim yn cadeirio ein heisteddiad Tŷ’r Cyffredin ym mis Tachwedd, roedd dal yn dda clywed ganddo’n siarad a rhoi ei farn ar lais ieuenctid.

Ond pam oedden ni yn y Gynhadledd Flynyddol? Y Gynhadledd Flynyddol yw ffordd SIDU o ddarganfod beth yw blaenoriaethau pobl ifanc. Cyflwynodd Aelodau gynigion a oedd yn bwysig yn eu hetholaeth a chan fod Caerdydd wedi dod yn Ddinas sy’n Dda i Blant, cyflwynais gynnig yn seiliedig ar yr UNCRC.

Trafodwyd y cynigion hyn a phleidleisiwyd arnynt dros dair sesiwn bleidleisio hir a phoeth dros y penwythnos.

Cynigion llwyddiannus sy’n creu maniffesto’r SIDU,  sef y cynigion a welwn ar y bleidlais Gadael eich Marc.

Roedd e’n benwythnos gwych ac yn brofiad bondio arbennig gydag Aelodau Senedd Ieuenctid eraill yng Nghymru a’r DU – nai byth anghofio’r daith bws yno yn canu a ballu!
