CYC Induction

cyc ind

*made with mentimeter on the day*

On the 28th of September 17 CYC members (some of whom who were existing members and some who had only just started with us during the meeting prior) had an induction to CYC. During the session they learnt about the structure of CYC, including the executive, the reformation group and the subgroups.

They also conversed with existing members about why CYC is in place and new and ongoing opportunities that they could get involved in were advertised to them. During this session the group had the responsibility of deciding how to cap the numbers of each subgroup in the most fair way as in previous years there has always been a ‘favourite’ that many members leaned towards. The reason for introducing a cap was that, on occasion, the larger subgroup would need to split into smaller working groups and struggled to come to a unanimous decision. This allowed newer members to take some responsibility and feel a part of the decision making process and a part of the group, from the offset.

Cyflwyniad CIC

Ar 28 Medi, cafodd 17 aelod y CIC gyflwyniad i’r CIC (roedd rhai eisoes yn aelodau a rhai newydd gychwyn â ni yn y cyfarfod blaenorol). Yn ystod y sesiwn, dysgont am strwythur y CIC, yn cynnwys y weithrediaeth, y grŵp diwygio a’r is-grwpiau.

Trafodont gyda’r aelodau presennol pam mae’r CIC yma a beth yw’r cyfleoedd newydd a pharhaus y gallent gymryd rhan ynddynt. Yn ystod y sesiwn hon, roedd ar y grŵp gyfrifoldeb dros benderfynu sut mae capio’r niferoedd ym mhob is-grŵp yn y ffordd fwyaf teg oherwydd yn y blynyddoedd blaenorol, bu ‘ffefryn’ bob tro, yr oedd nifer o aelodau’n tueddu i fod o’i blaid. Y rheswm dros gyflwyno cap oedd y byddai angen rhannu’r isgrŵp mwy ar achlysuron i weithgorau a methu â dod i benderfyniad unfryd. Rhoddodd hyn gyfle i aelodau newydd gymryd cyfrifoldeb a theimlo eu bod yn rhan o’r broses gwneud penderfyniadau a bod yn rhan o’r grŵp o’r cychwyn.

Rights Respecting Schools

Latest updates

rrs

There are currently over 91 schools in Cardiff who have registered for the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools programme which contributes to our goal of being a Child Friendly City.

All these schools have pledged to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. The Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.

Of those 91 schools in Cardiff, we have 3 schools who have achieved gold, 14 schools have achieved silver and 49 schools have currently achieved bronze. Congratulations to the 7 schools who have progressed to the silver award since September.

We have more training planned for the New Year for schools, ensuring more schools are progressing through the programme.

AIT Awarded

AIT kitemark

It is considered best practice that youth services adhere to the Children and Young People’s National Participation Standards (the standards) and promote their use. In order to gain recognition and accreditation for adhering to the standards, the team/service must follow the below process;

YI process

As a participation team, the active involvement team (AIT) aim to promote, adhere to and champion the standards in all work that is carried out.

In order to kick-start the process, AIT needed to complete a self-assessment. The self-assessment is a set of questions based around the standards, any organisation undergoing this process must also complete a portfolio of evidence. After submitting these two, AIT next invited the young inspector’s along to view city hall chambers where meetings are held and to their office based at grassroots.

AIT were then interviewed before the young inspector’s decided to pass AIT and recommend AIT for a full kite-mark. The recommendation was sent off to welsh government and since, AIT have been officially awarded the kite-mark by the First Minister for Wales, Mark Drakeford, himself.

Dyfranwyd TCA

Ystyrir mai’r arfer gorau yw bod y Gwasanaethau Ieuenctid yn cydymffurfio â Safonau Cyfranogiad Cenedlaethol Plant a Phobl Ifanc (y safonau) a’u bod yn hybu eu defnydd. Er mwyn cael cydnabyddiaeth ac achrediad am gydymffurfio â’r safonau, mae’n rhaid i’r tîm/gwasanaeth ddilyn y broses isod:

YI process

Fel tîm cyfranogol, nod y tîm cynnwys actif (TCA) yw cydymffurfio â hyrwyddo’r safonau yn yr holl waith a wneir. Er mwyn rhoi hwb i’r broses, roedd angen i’r TCA gwblhau hunan-asesiad. Set o gwestiynau am y safonau yw’r hunan-asesiad; mae’n rhaid i unrhyw sefydliad sy’n cynnal y broses hon greu portffolio o dystiolaeth. Ar ôl cyflwyno’r ddau uchod, gwahoddodd TCA yr arolygwyr ifainc i ddod i weld siambrau Neuadd y Ddinas lle cynhelir cyfarfodydd ac i’w swyddfeydd ar lawr gwlad. Yna cyfwelwyd y TCA cyn i’r arolygwyr ifainc benderfynu pasio’r TCA ac argymell bod y TCA yn cael marc barcud llawn. Anfonwyd yr argymhelliad i Lywodraeth Cymru a gan fod TCA wedi cael y marc barcud yn swyddogol gan Brif Weinidog Cymru, Mark Drakeford ei hun.

Young Inspectors

The process of the standards involves young people throughout; training them to become young inspectors, giving them the opportunity to read the self-assessment, putting them in charge of requesting evidence, encouraging them to lead during the inspection etc.

On this occasion, the bespoke training sessions were spread across two full days and were delivered in conjunction with Tempo – the organisation running the network of Time Credits. The young people engaged in ice breakers and team building exercises in order to help them get to know each other as they had not met prior to this training. They also engaged in an array of activities which helped build their confidence, assertiveness and active listening. The young inspectors learnt about children’s rights, confidentiality and an evidence capturing method called triangulation as a part of their training. All activities, though different, had one aim; to enable the young people to invoke their right to a voice as set out in Article 12 of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child.

The young inspectors were then given access to AIT’s self-assessment, from which they devised a list of ‘things to look out for’ during the inspection and produced a list of evidence that they then requested to see on the day of the inspection.

During the inspection day the young inspectors were impressed by the amount of work that such a small team are achieving. They recommended that AIT have more posters or leaflets in and around the city centre as this is where CYC meetings are held. They liked the amount of involvement young people had in terms of steering the work AIT do and how well respected their views are.

The young inspector’s comments have been captured and collated to be quality assured and signed off.

Though AIT passed, there is always room for improvement. The young people made some recommendations (in order to be adhering to the standards as best as possible) based on what was presented to them and AIT are in the process of adjusting their working methods in order to fully take these recommendations on board.

As the young inspector programme is unique to AIT in Cardiff, we divided the team and had 1 member of staff in charge of communicating with Tempo and training the young people and the others in charge of the self-assessment process and evidence collation. This was done in order to avoid bias in the best possible way.

Arolygwyr Ifainc

Mae prosesau’r safonau yn cynnwys pobl ifanc trwyddi draw, eu hyfforddi i ddod yn arolygwyr ifainc, rhoi’r cyfle iddynt ddarllen yr hunanasesiad a rhoi’r cyfrifoldeb iddynt ofyn am dystiolaeth, eu hannog i arwain yn ystod yr archwiliad a.y.b. Ar yr achlysur hwn, cynhaliwyd y sesiynau hyfforddi pwrpasol dros ddau ddiwrnod llawn a chawsant eu cyflwyno ar y cyd â Tempo – y sefydliad sy’n rhedeg rhwydwaith Credydau Amser. Cynhaliodd y bobl ifanc ymarferion torri’r iâ ac adeiladu tîm er mwyn helpu pawb i ddod i adnabod ei gilydd oherwydd nad oeddent wedi cyfarfod cyn yr hyfforddiant hwn. Cynhaliont hefyd ystod o weithgareddau a helpodd i fagu hyder a’u pendantrwydd a gwrando actif. Dysgodd yr arolygwyr ifainc am hawliau plant, cyfrinachedd a dull casglu tystiolaeth o’r enw triongli fel rhan o’u hyfforddiant. Roedd un nod i’r holl weithgareddau, er eu bod i gyd yn wahanol, sef rhoi’r gallu i’r bobl ifanc fynnu eu hawl i gael llais fel y nodir yn Erthygl; 12 Confensiwn y Cenhedloedd Unedig ar Hawliau’r Plentyn. Rhoddwyd mynediad at hunan asesiad y TCA i’r arolygwyr ifainc y gwnaethant greu ganddo restr o’r ‘pethau i chwilio amdanyn nhw’ yn ystod yr archwiliad a rhestr o dystiolaeth y gofynnont wedyn am gael ei weld ar ddiwrnod yr archwiliad.

Yn ystod diwrnod yr archwiliad, gwnaed argraff ar yr arolygwyr ifainc gan faint o waith mae tîm mor fach yn ei wneud. Argymhellont fod y TCA yn arddangos mwy o bosteri neu’n rhoi mwy o daflenni yn ac o amgylch canol y ddinas oherwydd mai dyma lle cynhelir cyfarfodydd CIC. Roeddent yn hoff o faint roedd pobl ifanc yn rhan o lywio gwaith y TCA a pha mor dda caiff eu barn ei pharchu. Mae sylwadau’r arolygwyr ifainc wedi eu cael a’u cydgasglu er mwyn rhoi sicrwydd ansawdd a’u cymeradwyo. Er fod y TCA wedi pasio, bydd lle i wella o hyd. Gwnaeth y bobl ifanc argymhellion (er mwyn i’r tîm gydymffurfio â’r safonau gystal â phosibl) ar sail yr hyn a gyflwynwyd iddynt ac mae’r TCA yn y broses o addasu eu dulliau gweithio er mwyn gwrando’n drylwyr ar yr argymelliadau hyn. Gan fod y rhaglen arolygwyr ifainc yn unigryw i TCA yng Nghaerdydd, rhannom y tîm ac roedd 1 aelod staff yn gyfrifol am gyfathrebu â Tempo a hyfforddi’r bobl ifanc a’r rhai eraill sy’n gyfrifol am y broses hunan-asesu a chydgasglu tystiolaeth. Gwnaed hyn er mwyn osgoi rhagfarn yn y ffordd orau bosibl.
