It was the morning of November 7, 2019 when a bus full of Welsh Members of Youth Parliament set off from Cardiff, heading east towards London. This time not for a conference but a sitting, a sitting in a place none other than the Houses of Parliament. It was the UKYP’s annual House of Commons sitting time, and we were ready for action!

A few weeks prior, I had been elected to serve as Debate Lead for Wales. This gave me the immense privilege to give a speech from the Dispatch Box – where the Prime Minister gives his addresses, no less. I was, thankfully, given the topic of “Protecting the Environment” and on the day, through some nervous waiting on the iconic green benches, I stood up and declared “We will not be the generation to see our planet in ruins and we won’t let our predecessors be that either”.

However, my own contributions to the UKYP history books was not the only benefit of the weekend. A number of smashing back-bench speeches were given by Welsh MYPs, including our very own Victor Ciunca. Victor gave a very rousing speech, as well as so many MYPs who gave their opinions on the results of the Make Your Mark Ballot.

A clear response came out of Make Your Mark; Protecting our Environment is a priority for children and young people across not only Cardiff, but Wales and the wider United Kingdom. In that spirit, the UKYP approved a motion to make it young people’s priority for the year 2020 – as well as news that it will be published as a petition to the UK Parliament itself!

This is not only historic as it is young people using their formal voices to try to lobby change, but it was the first time a Welsh motion became the United Kingdom’s national campaign. In the summer of 2018, I went to the University of Nottingham to propose the motion of “Protecting the Environment” and it was this motion that was selected to be on the 2019 Make Your Mark ballot. The rest, as they say, is history.

A once in a lifetime journey and one for the history books! The UKYP House of Commons sitting was a thorough success, despite the long bus journey!

Ysgrifennydd gan Connor Clarke

Bore’r 7fed o Dachwedd, 2019 oedd hi pan aeth bws yn llawn aelodau Cymreig o Senedd Ieuenctid y Deyrnas Unedig o Gaerdydd i Lundain. Y tro hwn nid ar gyfer cynhadledd ond ar gyfer sesiwn yn San Steffan o bobman.  Dyma oedd sesiwn flynyddol Senedd Ieuenctid y Deyrnas Unedig yn Nhŷ’r Cyffredin, ac roeddem yn barod amdani!

Ychydig wythnosau cyn hynny, roeddwn wedi fy ethol i fod yn Arweinydd y Ddadl dros Gymru.  Rhoddodd hwn y fraint anferth i mi gael rhoi araith o’r Dispatch Box – y man lle mae neb llai na’r Prif Weinidog yn annerch ohono.  Roeddwn i, diolch byth, wedi cael pwnc “Diogelu’r Amgylchedd” ac ar y diwrnod, ar ôl aros yn nerfus ar y meinciau gwyrdd eiconig, fe sefais a datgan “Nid ni fydd y genhedlaeth i weld ein planed ar chwâl ac ni fyddwn yn gadael i’n rhagflaenwyr fod yn hynny chwaith”.

Fodd bynnag, nid dim ond fy nghyfraniad i hanes UKYP oedd un o’r pethau gorau am y penwythnos.  Clywyd nifer o areithiau gwych o’r meinciau cefn gan Aelodau Cymreig o’r Senedd Ieuenctid, gan gynnwys ein Victor Ciunca ni.   Rhoddodd Victor araith danbaid, yn ogystal â chynifer o Aelodau a roddodd eu barn ar ganlyniadau’r “Make your Mark Ballot”.

Daeth ymateb eglur o “Make Your Mark” – mae Gwarchod ein Hamgylchedd yn flaenoriaeth i blant a phobl ifanc ledled Caerdydd, Cymru a’r Deyrnas Unedig yn ehangach. Yn yr ysbryd hwnnw, cymeradwyodd UKYP gynnig i’w gwneud yn flaenoriaeth i bobl ifanc yn 2020 – a daeth y newyddion y bydd yn cael ei chyhoeddi fel deiseb i Senedd y DU ei hun!

Dyw hyn ddim yn hanesyddol yn unig am y ffaith fod pobl ifanc yn defnyddio eu lleisiau ffurfiol i alw am newid, ond dyma’r tro cyntaf i gynnig Cymreig ddod yn rhan o ymgyrch Brydeinig.  Yn haf 2018 fe es i i Brifysgol Nottingham i gynnig “Gwarchod yr Amgylchedd” fel cynnig a hwn gafodd ei ddewis i fod ar y balot “Make Your Mark” yn 2019.  Mae’r cyfan fel maen nhw’n dweud yn hanes. 

Cyfle unwaith-mewn-bywyd ac un i’r llyfrau hanes! Roedd sesiwn Senedd Ieuenctid y DU yn Nhŷ’r Cyffredin yn llwyddiant ysgubol, er gwaetha’r daith hir ar y bws!

 

 

 

Cardiff Commitment Manager Interviews

Cardiff Commitment brings the public and private sectors together to work in partnership connecting young people to the vast range of opportunities available in the world of work. Ultimately, the goal of the Cardiff Commitment is to ensure that all young people in the city eventually secure a job that enables them to reach their full potential whilst contributing to the economic growth of the city.

Interviews were recently held for the manager of the Cardiff Commitment program and CYC members Zahara Mutibwa, Rhys Pinder & Zakia Mohamad sat on a young person’s interview panel which was run alongside the adult’s panel.

4 candidates were shortlisted and interviewed and the successful candidate was Carly Davies who took up her new role in the New Year. CYC wishes her all the best in her new role and look forward to working with her.

Cyfwelwyr Ifanc

Cyfweliadau Rheolwyr Addewid Caerdydd

Mae Addewid Caerdydd yn dwyn y sector cyhoeddus, preifat a’r trydydd sector ynghyd i weithio mewn partneriaeth i gysylltu pobl ifanc â’r ystod eang o gyfleoedd sydd ar gael ym myd gwaith. Nod Addewid Caerdydd yn y pen draw yw sicrhau bod pob person ifanc yn y ddinas yn cael swydd yn y diwedd a fydd yn ei alluogi i gyrraedd ei botensial llawn a chyfrannu at dwf economaidd y ddinas.

Yn ddiweddar, cynhaliwyd cyfweliadau ar gyfer rôl rheolwr y rhaglen Addewid Caerdydd ac roedd aelodau CIC, Zahara Mutibwa, Rhys Pinder a Zakia Mohamad yn rhan o banel cyfweld pobl ifanc oedd yn rhedeg ochr yn ochr â’r panel oedolion.

Cafodd 4 o ymgeiswyr eu rhoi ar y rhestr fer a’r ymgeisydd llwyddiannus oedd Carly Davies wnaeth ddechrau yn y swydd yn y Flwyddyn Newydd. Hoffai CIC ddymuno’n dda iddi yn ei swydd newydd ac edrychwn ymlaen at weithio gyda hi.

Young Inspectors National Team

The national participation standards are a set of standards that services can adhere to when working with young people. The extent to which services are following the standards are evaluated by trained young inspectors. Some areas of Wales have more young people interested in becoming young inspectors than others and some areas have more services interested in being inspected than others. In order to counterbalance this, a team of national kite-mark inspectors was created.

Organised by Children in Wales, 2 lead young inspectors from Cardiff, Alana Ellis and Ffion Humphreys, travelled up to Wrexham (accompanied by AIT staff) to the initial meeting of the national kite-mark inspectors. Present were members of Wrexham Youth Council, Carmarthenshire Youth Council as well as other representatives from across Wales.

At the meeting, the group looked at what participation means, a benefit tree of the national participation standards (a mapping exercise shaped as a tree showing the benefits of the standards for different people) & the young inspectors programme and were also formally invited to attend the 30th anniversary celebration of the UNCRC.

Tîm cenedlaethol yr Arolygwyr Ifainc

Set o safonau y gall gwasanaethau gydymffurfio â nhw wrth weithio â phobl ifanc ydy’r Safonau Cyfranogiad Cenedlaethol. Mae Arolygwyr Ifainc hyfforddedig yn gwerthuso i ba raddau mae’r gwasanaethau yn cydymffurfio â’r safonau. Mae mwy o bobl ifanc sydd â diddordeb mewn dod yn arolygwyr ifainc mewn rhai ardaloedd yng Nghymru nag eraill ac mae mwy o gwasanaethau sydd am gael eu harchwilio mewn rhai ardaloedd na rhai eraill. Er mwyn gwrthbwyso hyn, crëwyd tîm o arolygwyr marc barcud cenedlaethol. Trefnir gan Plant yng Nghymru, teithiodd 2 arolygydd arweiniol o Gaerdydd, Alana Ellis a Ffion Humphreys, i Wrecsam (gyda staff TCA) i gyfarfod cyntaf yr arolygwyr marc barcud cenedlaethol. Roedd aelodau o Gyngor Ieuenctid Wrecsam, Cyngor Ieuenctid Sir Gaerfyrddin yno yn ogystal â chynrychiolwyr eraill rannau eraill o Gymru.

Yn y cyfarfod, edrychodd y grŵp ar ystyr cyfranogi, coeden fuddion y Safonau Cyfranogiad Cenedlaethol (ymarfer mapio mewn siâp coeden, sy’n dangos buddion y rhaglen o wahanol safbwyntiau) a rhaglen arolygwyr ifainc ac fe’u gwahoddwyd yn ffurfiol hefyd i ddathliad 30 mlwyddiant y CCUHP.

Is-grwpiau (Blaenoriaethau’r CIC)

Mental Health and Wellbeing 2018 – 2020

Over the last academic year Cardiff Youth Council (CYC) has worked on its priority of Mental Health & Wellbeing (MH&W).

The group identified that in order for them to gain a good understanding of what current MH&W services for children and young people exist already, and how best to influence and shape future services, then a number of tasks would need to be done, which included:

• Research and identify current models, tools and services for the support of children and young people’s (C&YP) MH&W
• Identify preventative support that could help reduce the need for escalation to mental health & wellbeing interventions such as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
• What services/support children and young people need
• Identifying new ways in which services could be delivered to children and young people

The group have also had members sitting on a number of strategic/task groups to try and gauge what the current thinking is amongst decision makers, these are:

• C&YP Scrutiny Committee
• Scrutiny mental health task group
• CAMHS repatriation steering group
• CAMHS repatriation development group

Report & Key Recommendations

After their engagement and research the group have written a report which identifies some of the issues faced by C&YP, the adults who work and support them, the environment in which they learn and the oversight of services provided. The report then goes on to present a number of key recommendations that young people say is needed for things to improve. This report will soon be published and sent out to a number of key people and organisations that the group have identified.

Going Forward

Usually CYC set three new priorities at the start of each academic year but this year has been a little different.

As part of their work last year CYC identified a number of ways in which they would like to promote MindHub which were:

• The creation of two videos
  • The first – a 2 min live action film in which young people talk about some of the issues they face that cause poor MH&W and which promotes MindHub
  • The second – a 20-30sec animated film that can be used to promote MindHub on various platforms such as social media sites
• Update the MindHub website with changes identified by users
• Posters and banners that can be displayed in schools and other locations across the city.

In order to achieve the above CYC needed funding and applied to Cardiff Youth Service for money through a Welsh Government Grant aimed at improving MH&W for young people.

This funding has been approved but due to the approval not coming through until after the start of the new academic year, 2019-2020, CYC decided to continue the MH&W priority subgroup without going through the usual channels of debating and voting on priority issues.

This means that the subgroup can now go on and proceed with the work above.

As well as this work the group are in the process of looking at what they can also do over the rest of this academic year to further their goal in helping young people with their MH&W.

Iechyd Meddwl a Lles 2018 – 2019

Cyngor Ieuenctid Caerdydd (CIC) wedi gweithio ar ei flaenoriaeth, sef Iechyd Meddwl a Lles. Nododd y grŵp fod angen gwneud nifer o dasgau er mwyn iddynt gael dealltwriaeth dda o’r gwasanaethau Iechyd Meddwl a Lles presennol sydd ar gyfer plant a phobl ifanc a’r ffyrdd gorau o ddylanwadu ar wasanaethau’r dyfodol a’u siapio, roedd hyn yn cynnwys:

• Ymchwilio ac adnabod modelau presennol, dulliau a gwasanaethau ar gyfer cynorthwyo Iechyd Meddwl a Lles plant a phobl ifanc.
• Nodi cymorth ataliol a allai helpu i leihau’r angen am uwchgyfeirio i ymyriadau iechyd meddwl a lles megis Gwasanaethau Iechyd Meddwl Plant a’r Glasoed (CAMHS).
• Pa wasanaethau/cymorth y mae eu hangen ar blant a phobl ifanc.
• Nodi’r ffyrdd newydd y gellid cyflwyno gwasanaethau i blant a phobl ifanc.

Bu aelodau o’r grŵp hefyd ar nifer o grwpiau strategol/gorchwyl i geisio deall beth yw’r meddylfryd ar hyn o bryd ymhlith y rhai sy’n gwneud penderfyniadau.

Adroddiad ac Argymhellion Allweddol

Ar ôl eu hymrwymiad ac ymchwil, mae’r grŵp wedi ysgrifennu adroddiad sy’n nodi rhai o’r materion y mae Plant a Phobl Ifanc yn eu hwynebu, yr oedolion sy’n gweithio ac yn eu cefnogi, yr amgylchedd y maent yn dysgu ynddo a’r oruchwyliaeth a roddir ar wasanaethau. Yna, cyflwyna’r adroddiad nifer o argymhellion allweddol sydd eu hangen yn ôl y bobl ifanc er mwyn i bethau wella. Caiff yr adroddiad hwn ei gyhoeddi yn fuan a’i anfon i nifer o bobl a sefydliadau allweddol yn mae’r grŵp wedi eu hadnabod.

Symud ymlaen

Fel arfer, mae’r CIC yn gosod tair blaenoriaeth newydd ar ddechrau pob blwyddyn academaidd ond eleni, bu hyn ychydig yn wahanol. Fel rhan o’u gwaith y llyned, nododd y CIC nifer o ffyrdd yr hoffent hyrwyddo HybMeddwl, sef:

• Creu dau fideo.
  • Bydd y cyntaf – ffilm 2 funud gyda phobl ifanc yn trafod rhai o’r problemau y maent yn eu hwynebu sy’n achosi Iechyd Meddwl a Lles gwael ac yn hyrwyddo HybMeddwl.
  • A’r ail fydd ffilm 20-30 eiliad y gellir ei defnyddio i hyrwyddo’r HybMeddwl ar wahanol blatfformau, megis safleoedd ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol.
• Diweddaru gwefan yr HybMeddwl gyda newidiadau a nododd defnyddwyr.
• Posteri a baneri y gellir eu harddangos mewn ysgolion ac mewn llefydd eraill trwy’r ddinas.

Er mwyn gwneud y pethau uchod, roedd angen arian ar y CIC, a gwnaeth gais i Wasanaeth Ieuenctid Caerdydd am arian trwy Grant Llywodraeth Cymru y’i nod yw gwella Iechyd Meddwl a Lles i bobl ifanc.

Mae’r arian wedi ei gymeradwyo ond oherwydd na chafodd ei gymeradwyo tan ar ôl cychwyn y flwyddyn academaidd newydd, 2019-20, penderfynodd CIC fwrw ymlaen ag is-grŵp blaenoriaeth Iechyd Meddwl a Lles heb fynd trwy’r sianelau arferol o ddadlau a phleidleisio ar faterion blaenoriaeth.

Golyga hyn y gall yr is-grŵp nawr fynd ymlaen â’r gwaith uchod.

Yn ogystal â’r gwaith hwn, mae’r grŵp wrthi’n edrych ar beth gall ei wneud dros weddill y flwyddyn academaidd hon i weithio at eu nod o helpu pobl ifanc â’u Hiechyd Meddwl a Lles.

Knife Crime 2018 – 2019

With fatal stabbings across England and Wales at their highest levels since records began in 1946, and knife and gun crime rising by 21% last year alone, there is a clear indication that the current approaches to tackling violent crime need urgent revision.

CYC members have been working with Senior Youth Officers (SYOs) over the last year to develop a knife crime (KC) awareness workshop that can be delivered in schools across the city. Members helped with identifying what needed to be in the workshop by looking at the law, consequences, why young people carry knives and the media’s role in knife crime.

Members of the KC subgroup worked with young people from different youth centres across the city to develop the workshop and trial it. After evaluating the session, members asked us to trial it again in a school setting with the workshop being delivered to over 200 young people. Work shop resources were developed around the Fearless model.

Fearless is a site where you can access non-judgemental information and advice about crime and a safe place to give information about crime – 100% anonymously.

There was also the development of a task and finish group of organisations from across the city that deliver knife crime awareness sessions in schools. The purpose of the group was to understand, who is delivering what and to which schools, this was a way to stop duplication and also to quality assure that we are all working to the same standard and sharing the same messages.

This culminated in the development of a leaflet, Supporting Youth Knife Crime Prevention in Cardiff – A Resource for Professionals Working with Young People; that highlighted key organisations that are working on the Knife Crime agenda in Cardiff. This resource has been shared with a number of partners and all schools across the city.

Troseddau Cyllyll 2018 – 2019

Gyda marwolaeth gan droseddau cyllell ledled Cymru a Lloegr ar y lefel uchaf ers y dechreuwyd eu cofnodi ym 1946, a thrais sy’n cynnwys cyllyll a gynau yn cynyddu gan 21% y llynedd yn unig, mae’n amlwg bod angen ailystyried ar frys y dulliau cyfredol o fynd i’r afael â thrais a throseddau.

Mae aelodau CIC wedi bod yn gweithio gydag Uwch Swyddogion Ieuenctid i lunio gweithdy codi ymwybyddiaeth am droseddau â chyllyll y gellir ei gyflwyno mewn ysgolion ledled y ddinas.

Helpodd aelodau i nodi beth roedd angen ei gynnwys yn y gweithdy trwy edrych ar y gyfraith, y canlyniadau, pam mae pobl ifanc yn cario cyllyll a rôl y cyfryngau yn nhroseddau cyllyll. Gweithiodd aelodau’r is-grŵp troseddau â chyllyll â phobl ifanc o wahanol ganolfannau ieuenctid yn y ddinas i ddatblygu’r gweithdy a’i dreialu. Ar ôl gwerthuso’r sesiwn, gofynnodd aelodau i ni ei threialu eto mewn ysgol lle cyflwynwyd i gweithdy i dros 200 o bobl ifanc. Datblygwyd adnoddau ar gyfer y gweithdy ar sail y model Fearless.

Gwefan yw Fearless lle cewch fynediad at wybodaeth a chyngor heb feirniadaeth am droseddau a lle diogel i gael gwybodaeth am droseddau, a hynny yn 100% anhysbys.

Hefyd datblygwyd grŵp gorchwyl a gorffen yn cynnwys sefydliadau ledled y ddinas sy’n cyflwyno sesiynau ar godi ymwybyddiaeth am droseddau â chyllyll mewn ysgolion. Diben y grŵp oedd deall pwy sy’n cyflwyno beth ac i ba ysgolion. Roedd hon yn ffordd o atal dyblygu a hefyd i sicrhau ansawdd a sicrhau bod pawb yn gweithio at yr un safon ac yn rhannu’r un negeseuon.

Daeth hyn i anterth wrth ddatblygu taflen, Cynorthwyo Atal Troseddau â Chyllyll gan Bobl Ifanc yng Nghaerdydd – Adnodd ar gyfer Gweithwyr Proffesiynol â Phobl Ifanc a oedd yn amlygu sefydliadau allweddol sy’n gweithio ar yr agenda Troseddau â Chyllyll yng Nghaerdydd. Mae’r adnodd wedi ei rannu â nifer o bartneriaid a phob ysgol yn y ddinas.

Support Youth Services 2018 – 2019

Over the year the subgroup managed to achieve a lot. A portion if the work will follow into 2019 – 2020 but not as an official subgroup.

The subgroup initially looked at the youth work quality mark: silver level and created a survey based on the themes in it. They then asked youth service managers to ask their staff to complete it. After the staff had their say the subgroup decided to concentrate their efforts on another element of the quality mark, ensuring that services are implementing the 7 national participation standards for children and young people in Wales.

An opportunity then arose for them to work together with the achievement leader of Cardiff youth service and carry out an inspection on the training provider and tuition service ACT.

In order to do this the group needed to be trained as young inspectors. In the New Year Cardiff youth services will be undergoing inspections in an attempt to gain the national kite-mark for the service as a whole.

Gwasanaethau Ieuenctid Cynorthwyol 2018 – 2019

Dros y flwyddyn, cyflawnodd yr is-grŵp lawer iawn. Bydd rhan o’r gwaith hwnnw yn mynd ymlaen i 2019 – 20 ond nid fel is-grŵp swyddogol.

Yn gyntaf, edrychodd yr is-grŵp ar y marc ansawdd gwaith ieuenctid: lefel arian a chreodd arolwg ar sail y themâu yn hwnnw. Yna gofynnont i’r rheolwyr gwasanaeth ieuenctid ofyn i’w staff ei gwblhau. Ar ôl i’r staff gael dweud eu dweud, penderfynodd yr isgrŵp ganolbwyntio ei ymdrechion ar elfen arall o’r marc safon, gan sicrhau bod y gwasanaethau yn gweithredu’r 7 safon cyfranogi cenedlaethol ar gyfer plant a phobl ifanc yng Nghymru.

Cododd cyfle wedyn iddynt gydweithio ag arweinydd llwyddiant gwasanaeth ieuenctid Caerdydd a chynnal archwiliad ar y darparwr hyfforddiant a’r gwasanaeth tiwtora ACT.

Er mwyn gwneud hyn, roedd angen hyfforddi’r grŵp fel archwilwyr ifainc. Yn y flwyddyn newydd, bydd gwasanaethau ieuenctid Caerdydd yn cael archwiliadau er mwyn ceisio cael marc barcud cenedlaethol ar gyfer y gwasanaeth ar y cyfan.

Protect the Environment 2019 – 2020

This year a new subgroup has been formed: protect the environment.

This subgroup came from the make your mark ballot, put forward by Connor Clarke, MYP for Cardiff and CYC member, and motions from CYC members and was voted for as a favourite.

The group have been researching what avenue they would like to prioritise as the topic has the potential to be broad. They are also looking to work with local councillors and the Welsh youth parliament.

Amddiffyn yr Amgylchedd 2019 – 2020

Eleni, ffurfiwyd is-grŵp newydd: amddiffyn yr amgylchedd.

Daeth yr is-grŵp o’r bleidlais gwneud dy farc, fe’i cyflwynwyd gan Connor Clarke, ASI Caerdydd ac aelod CIC, a chynigion gan aelodau CIC a phleidleisiwyd hyn fel ffefryn.

Mae’r grŵp wedi bod yn ymchwilio pa drywydd yr hoffent ei flaenoriaethu oherwydd gall y testun fod yn un eang. Maent hefyd yn bwriadu gweithio gyda chynghorwyr lleol a senedd ieuenctid Cymru.

Welcoming Refugees 2019 – 2020

A new priority for the year is Welcoming refugees. This was on the make your mark ballot, put forward by Victor Ciunca, MYP for Cardiff and CYC member. As a result, CYC have prioritised it for the year.

The current plan is to work with Oasis Cardiff (who aim to provide a warm Welsh welcome for refugees and asylum seekers) and the refugee council for Wales (who speak out on behalf of those who are fleeing persecution, conflict and oppression) and find out what they do and how they support young people. They are interested in knowing if there is any scope to work together on the agenda of welcoming refugees into our city.

Croesawu Ffoaduriaid 2019 – 2020

Blaenoriaeth newydd ar gyfer y flwyddyn yw Croesawu ffoaduriaid. Roedd hon yn fater ym mhleidlais gwneud dy farc, a gyflwynwyd gan Victor Ciunca, ASI dros Gaerdydd ac aelod o CIC. O ganlyniad, mae CIC wedi blaenoriaethu’r testun ar gyfer y flwyddyn.

Maent eisiau gwybod os oes cwmpas i gydweithio ar agenda croesawu ffoaduriaid i’n dinas.

What is the UK Youth Parliament?

Run by young people for young people, The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) provides opportunities for 11-18 year olds to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change. The UKYP is made up of over 300 MYPs (Members of Youth Parliament), who are elected by their peers in youth elections throughout the UK. Any young person aged 11-18 can stand or vote. Once elected, MYPs organise events and projects, run campaigns and influence decision makers on the issues which matter most to young people.

This Year’s Ballot

This year’s ballot had a very new format to previous years. There were 3 votes on the ballot paper,   1 vote for 5 UK wide topics, 1 vote for 5 Devolved topics and space to write a Local topic. The choices on the ballot paper were decided by Members of the Youth Parliament at an Annual Conference in August.

This year 6559 young people across Cardiff took part in Make your Mark, results are shown in the table below.

Cynhelir hon gan bobl ifanc dros bobl ifanc; mae Senedd Ieuenctid y DU yn rhoi cyfleoedd i blant 11 i 18 oed leisio eu barn mewn ffyrdd creadigol er mwyn achosi newid cymdeithasol. Mae dros 300 Aelod Senedd Ieuenctid sy’n cael eu hethol gan eu cyfoedion mewn etholiadau ieuenctid trwy’r DU. Caiff unrhyw berson ifanc o 11 i 18 oed sefyll neu bleidleisio. Ar ôl cael eu hethol, bydd yr Aelodau Senedd Ieuenctid yn trefnu digwyddiadau a phrojectau, cynnal ymgyrchoedd a dylanwadu ar y rhai sy’n gwneud penderfyniadau ynghylch materion sydd bwysicaf i bobl ifanc.

Pleidlais eleni.

Roedd ffurf newydd wahanol iawn i’r blynyddoedd cynt eleni. Bu 3 pleidlais ar y papur pleidleisio: 1 ar gyfer 5 testun trwy’r DU; 1 ar gyfer 5 testun datganoledig a lle i nodi testun lleol. Yr Aelodau Senedd Ieuenctid a benderfynodd y dewisiadau ar y papur pleidleisio mewn Cynhadledd Flynyddol ym mis Awst.

Eleni, cymerodd 6559 person ifanc ran yn Gwneud dy Farc, mae’r canlyniadau yn y tabl isod.

 

Recently AIT where asked to support a PSE day at Cantonian High School to look at democracy and voting systems within the UK. With the help of CYC members the staff developed a one hour workshop that was delivered to 115 students throughout the day during six lessons.

 The session looked at a number of different areas that included:

• Levels of democracy, across the UK for both adults and young people
• The difference between Government and Parliament
• Who is elected to represent them locally (Cardiff) nationally (Wales) and UK wide
• How to vote in an election
• Laws around ‘when to’ and ‘who can’ vote

We also looked at the UNCRC – Children’s rights and what they meant to the class.  The sessions were successful with some great debates and discussions and we also had some very interesting answers to a quiz that formed part of the lesson.

We look forward to taking part in another PSE day at the school in the future.

 

Diwrnod ABCh Ysgol Uwchradd Cantonian

Yn ddiweddar, gofynnwyd i TCA gefnogi diwrnod ABCh yn Ysgol Uwchradd Cantonian i edrych ar ddemocratiaeth a systemau pleidleisio yn y DU. Gyda chymorth aelodau’r CIC, datblygodd staff weithdy awr ar gyfer 115 myfyriwr trwy’r diwrnod yn ystod chwe gwers. Edrychodd y sesiwn ar nifer o wahanol ardaloedd, yn cynnwys: Lefelau democratiaeth trwy’r DU ar gyfer oedolion a phobl ifanc. Y gwahaniaeth rhwng y Llywodraeth a’r Senedd Pwy gaiff ei ethol i’w cynrychioli yn lleol (Caerdydd), yn genedlaethol (Cymru) a’r DU gyfan. Sut mae pleidleisio mewn etholiad. Cyfreithiau ynghylch pryd cewch a phwy gaiff bleidleisio. Edrychom hefyd ar CCUHP, Hawliau Plant a beth oedd hyn yn ei olygu i’r dosbarth. Bu’r sesiynau yn llwyddiannus a chafwyd dadleuon a thrafodaethau gwych a chawsom hefyd atebion diddorol iawn i gwis a oedd yn rhan o’r wers.

Rydym yn edrych ymlaen at gymryd rhan mewn diwrnod ABCh arall yn yr ysgol yn y dyfodol.

As Members of Youth Parliament, it is always an honour to meet with Members of the UK Parliament (MPs) – and for the past few months it has been mine and Victor’s primary mission to meet with as many MPs and AMs as possible.

The advantages of this are not just personal (though the photo opportunities are great), they present an opportunity for the youth council to spread the word of their work to people in positions of influence.

We used these meetings as a vehicle to inform these legislators, who all represent Cardiff, of the work that CYC does but, more importantly, the priorities of children and young people in Cardiff.

As 2019’s top Make Your Mark priority, Protect the Environment came up a number of times during these meetings. Young people are invested in our future and it was good to see how these politicians are aware of this and reflect on it. In addition, topics such as Welcome Refugees, Crime and Mental Health were all key topics of conversation (this was especially beneficial as we were able to show off MindHub and the work of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Subgroup).

In addition to spreading the word of children and young people, we used these opportunities to expand our network of communication. Our ultimate aim is to get these influential people involved in the work of young people and raise their awareness about us – in a greater capacity than just meetings – which is a key component to that journey.

It was a great experience overall. My key moments were meeting Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford (AM for Cardiff West) and MP. Stephen Doughty, as well as choosing whether to dress smart casual, casual or smart!

Fel Aelod o’r Senedd Ieuenctid, mae o hyd yn anrhydedd cyfarfod Aelodau o Senedd y DU (ASau) – a thros y misoedd nesaf, bu’n genhadaeth i mi a Victor i gyfarfod â chymaint o ASau ac ACau â phosibl.

Nid personol yn unig yw’r manteision (er bod y cyfle am ffotograff yn wych), maent yn gyfleoedd hefyd i’r cyngor ieuenctid ledu gwybodaeth am ei waith i bobl sydd mewn swyddi dylanwadol. Rydym yn defnyddio’r cyfarfodydd hyn fel cerbyd i roi gwybod i’r rhai sy’n gwneud deddfau, sydd oll yn cynrychioli Caerdydd, am waith y CIC, ond yn bwysicach am flaenoriaethau plant a phobl ifanc yng Nghaerdydd.

Fel prif flaenoriaeth Gwneud dy Farc 2019, cododd Diogelu’r Amgylchedd droeon yn ystod y cyfarfodydd hyn. Mae pobl ifanc yn ymrwymo yn ein dyfodol a da fu gweld sut mae’r gwleidyddion yn ymwybodol o hyn ac yn myfyrio arno.

Yn ogystal, roedd Croesawu Ffoaduriaid, Trosedd ac Iechyd Meddwl oll yn brif destunau trafod (roedd hyn o fantais o hefyd y bu modd i ni ddangos HybMeddwl a gwaith Is-grŵp Iechyd Meddwl a Lles).

Yn ogystal â lledu gwybodaeth am blant a phobl ifanc, defnyddiom y cyfleoedd hyn i ehangu ein rhwydwaith cyfathrebu. Ein nod yn y pen draw yw cael y bobl dylanwadol hyn i fod yn rhan o waith pobl ifanc a chodi eu hymwybyddiaeth amdanom ni – mewn capasiti ehangach na chyfarfodydd yn unig – sy’n rhan allweddol o’r daith honno. Roedd yn brofiad gwych ar y cyfan. Fy adegau allweddol oedd cyfarfod Prif Weinidog Cymru, Mark Drakeford (AC Gorllewin Caerdydd) ac AS. Stephen Doughty, yn ogystal â dewis gwisgo’n drwsiadus hamddenol, hamddenol neu’n drwsiadus.

On the 28th of September 17 CYC members (some of whom who were existing members and some who had only just started with us during the meeting prior) had an induction to CYC. During the session they learnt about the structure of CYC, including the executive, the reformation group and the subgroups.

They also conversed with existing members about why CYC is in place and new and ongoing opportunities that they could get involved in were advertised to them. During this session the group had the responsibility of deciding how to cap the numbers of each subgroup in the most fair way as in previous years there has always been a ‘favourite’ that many members leaned towards. The reason for introducing a cap was that, on occasion, the larger subgroup would need to split into smaller working groups and struggled to come to a unanimous decision. This allowed newer members to take some responsibility and feel a part of the decision making process and a part of the group, from the offset.

Cyflwyniad CIC

Ar 28 Medi, cafodd 17 aelod y CIC gyflwyniad i’r CIC (roedd rhai eisoes yn aelodau a rhai newydd gychwyn â ni yn y cyfarfod blaenorol). Yn ystod y sesiwn, dysgont am strwythur y CIC, yn cynnwys y weithrediaeth, y grŵp diwygio a’r is-grwpiau.

Trafodont gyda’r aelodau presennol pam mae’r CIC yma a beth yw’r cyfleoedd newydd a pharhaus y gallent gymryd rhan ynddynt. Yn ystod y sesiwn hon, roedd ar y grŵp gyfrifoldeb dros benderfynu sut mae capio’r niferoedd ym mhob is-grŵp yn y ffordd fwyaf teg oherwydd yn y blynyddoedd blaenorol, bu ‘ffefryn’ bob tro, yr oedd nifer o aelodau’n tueddu i fod o’i blaid. Y rheswm dros gyflwyno cap oedd y byddai angen rhannu’r isgrŵp mwy ar achlysuron i weithgorau a methu â dod i benderfyniad unfryd. Rhoddodd hyn gyfle i aelodau newydd gymryd cyfrifoldeb a theimlo eu bod yn rhan o’r broses gwneud penderfyniadau a bod yn rhan o’r grŵp o’r cychwyn.

Latest updates

There are currently over 91 schools in Cardiff who have registered for the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools programme which contributes to our goal of being a Child Friendly City.

All these schools have pledged to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. The Rights Respecting Schools Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.

Of those 91 schools in Cardiff, we have 3 schools who have achieved gold, 14 schools have achieved silver and 49 schools have currently achieved bronze. Congratulations to the 7 schools who have progressed to the silver award since September.

We have more training planned for the New Year for schools, ensuring more schools are progressing through the programme.

Ar hyn o bryd mae dros 91 ysgol yng Nghaerdydd sydd wedi cofrestru mewn Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau UNICEF, sy’n cyfrannu at ein nod o ddod yn Ddinas sy’n Dda i Blant. Mae’r ysgolion hyn i gyd wedi addewi creu lleoedd diogel ac ysbrydoledig i ddysgu, lle caiff plant eu parchu, eu talentau eu meithrin a lle gallant ffynnu. Mae Gwobr Ysgolion sy’n Parchu Hawliau yn helpu i gynnwys y gwerthoedd hyn ym mywyd bob dydd ysgolion gan roi cyfle i blant fyw bywydau hapus, iach a bod yn ddinasyddion cyfrifol, rhagweithiol.

O’r 91 ysgol yng Nghaerdydd, mae gennym 3 ysgol sydd wedi cael gwobr aur, 14 ysgol sydd wedi cael gwobr arian a 49 ysgol sydd wedi cael y wobr efydd. Llongyfarchiadau i’r 7 ysgol a aeth ymlaen i ennill y wobr arian ers mis Medi. Mae gennym fwy o hyfforddiant wedi ei gynllunio ar gyfer y Flwyddyn Newydd i ysgolion, gan sicrhau bod rhagor o ysgolion yn mynd trwy’r rhaglen.
